Every firearm sold by DK Gun ships through an FFL transfer. Federal law does not allow us to ship a firearm to your home. Instead, we ship it to a federally licensed dealer (FFL) you choose, and you pick it up there after a background check. This page explains exactly how it works.

How to Buy a Gun Online in 4 Steps

  1. Find a local FFL dealer. Most gun shops and many pawn shops and gunsmiths handle transfers. Call ahead and ask for their transfer fee, which usually ranges from $20 to $75.
  2. Place your order. Add your pistol to the cart. At checkout, enter the dealer’s business name, FFL number, address and phone number in the licensed dealer fields.
  3. We verify and ship. We confirm the dealer’s license, exchange license copies and ship your firearm fully insured with tracking.
  4. Pick it up. Your dealer contacts you when it arrives. Bring a valid government photo ID, fill out ATF Form 4473 and complete the background check. Once approved, it is yours.

Choosing an FFL Dealer

Pick a dealer close to home with convenient hours. Confirm they accept transfers from online retailers and that they can legally transfer the model you are buying in your state. Some dealers require you to send their license to us yourself, while others prefer to email it directly. Either way works. If you enter a dealer email at checkout, we will send our license copy to them automatically.

Background Check and Eligibility

Your dealer runs the background check through the FBI’s NICS system or your state’s point of contact. You must be at least 21 years old to buy a handgun from a licensed dealer, and you must be legally allowed to own firearms. If a background check is denied or delayed, your dealer will explain your options. See our shipping and returns page for how we handle orders that cannot be transferred.

Firearm Shipping Timeline

Most orders leave our facility within 1 to 3 business days after we receive your dealer’s license. Transit usually takes 2 to 5 business days. You will receive tracking by email as soon as your order ships, and we recommend calling your dealer to let them know a package is on the way.

State and Local Restrictions

Some states and cities restrict AK-pattern pistols, threaded barrels, pistol braces or magazines over 10 rounds. Before ordering, check your local laws or ask your FFL dealer. We cannot ship a product to a location where it is prohibited. For official guidance, visit the ATF firearms page.

Still have questions about your FFL transfer? Contact DK Gun and we will walk you through it, or browse the shop to find your next pistol.

FFL Transfer Fees and Costs

Your dealer sets their own transfer fee, typically $20 to $75. Some states also charge a background check fee. These fees are paid to the dealer at pickup and are separate from your DK Gun order. Ask your dealer for the total cost before you order so there are no surprises.

What to Bring to Your FFL Transfer

  • A valid, unexpired government photo ID with your current address.
  • Any state permit or license your state requires for handgun purchases.
  • Your order confirmation email.
  • Payment for the dealer’s transfer fee.

FFL Transfer Tips

Call your dealer before you order to confirm they accept transfers and to ask about wait times. Double-check the FFL number you enter at checkout, since a typo can delay your order. When tracking shows the package was delivered, give the dealer a day to log it into their books before you visit.
